Stelbel Raduno Retreat

Spend four days in the saddle with your Stelbel immersed in a unique alpine environment, in the company of the whole team and fellow supporters of the brand. Together we will climb some of the most legendary climbs in Italy – Gavia, Mortirolo and of course the Stelvio Pass. Then at the end of the day we will recover our strength while enjoying the best that Bormio and Valtellina has to offer.

Location

Bormio is located in the province of Sondrio (Lombardy) in the heart of the Alps and not far from the Swiss border. The resort, in the middle of the Stelvio National Park, is a destination for cyclists from all over the world who like to test themselves on some of the Alps’ longest and most challenging climbs.

Transfers

Bormio is easily accessible from Milan. Collections can be arranged from Milan central station and Bergamo. We can also collect from these airports – Orio al Serio (BGY), Linate (LIN) and Malpensa (MXP). The pick-ups will be scheduled for the morning of Thursday 7th June, starting from Bergamo at 09:00.

For those who want to reach Bormio independently, please note that our arrival is scheduled for the early afternoon (14:00 ETA) on Thursday, 7th June. Drop-offs at departure airports/train stations can also be organized on the final day. The departure from Bormio is scheduled for 20:00 on Sunday 10th June.

Accomodation

The base for the Raduno will be the Ostello Alpino, a traditional building with modern features and common areas. A few meters away is the Alpi and Golf Hotel, which is the second building that will host us.  The friendly atmosphere as well the friendship that we have with both lodgings made our decision to choose them very easy.

What is included?

The four days of the Raduno will be organized in the best way to ensure that every cyclist, with any kind of preparation can fully enjoy the experience. And to ensure this, cycling guides will lead the way and there will be support vehicles with onboard mechanics. Program (provisional)

Thursday 7 June

For those who will not reach Bormio independently, we will provide a transfer service leaving from Bergamo station at around 9:00, then on to Bergamo Orio al Serio airport, Linate airport, Milan central train station and finally Malpensa airport. We expect to arrive in Bormio at approximately 14:00.

On our arrival you will be offered a welcome refreshment while the rooms will be assigned, followed by a light lunch. For the first day we plan a warm up ride with a climb up to the Towers of Fraele and for those who feel up to it, a tour of Lake Cancano (gravel and at times challenging).

Upon returning to Bormio we expect a little relaxation while the mechanics will take care of the bikes and with dinner to follow at the Ostello Alpino.

Friday 8 June | Passo dello Stelvio

23km average 7% and peaks at 11% – 1.543m elevation

Friday starts with the real climbs. We predict that the ascent to the Stelvio Pass on Friday should be a day with less traffic. After breakfast, we are scheduled to depart around 10:00..

The climb from Bormio to the second highest mountain pass in Europe includes 36 hairpins distributed over 23 km with an average gradient of 7% and peaks of 9.5%.

At the top there will be a light lunch at a restaurant or snack bag available from the support vehicle.

As an alternative to this classic climb, it will be possible to test yourself with the ascent of the Umbrail Pass, descent into Switzerland and ascent to the Stelvio from the Prato allo Stelvio side, thus doubling the total kms and resulting in a 3.400m elevation gain for the day.

Back in Bormio we can share experiences from the day with a refreshing beverage. For those who want, massage and laundry services are available.

For Friday evening, dinner will be organized at a local “Agriturismo” to taste the best of typical products and wine of Alta Valtellina.

Saturday 9 June | Gavia Pass

25km of average climb of 5.5% and peaks at 15% – 1.400m elevation

For Saturday we have planned to ascend another giant, the Gavia Pass.

After a good breakfast we will depart around 10:00 to first reach Santa Caterina and then the Pass.

At the top there will be a packed lunch / snack available from the support vehicle.

The return to the accommodation is scheduled for the early afternoon. It is possible to dedicate the rest of the day to alternative activities such as excursions, visits to the thermal baths, guided tours or free time for shopping, in Bormio or Livigno.

For Saturday evening we have organized the “Stelbel Party” with dinner buffet starting at 20:00. The evening is also open to family, friends and cyclists by reservation.

Sunday 10 June | Mortirolo

12.5km climb to an average of 10.5% and peaks to 18% – 1.250m elevation

Sunday offers up the brutal climb of Mortirolo. Following breakfast we start around 10:00 and we will need to reach Mazzo in Valtellina, which is a village at the base of the the mortirolo climb. This is an easy 35 km section of road. After a quick coffee, the fun commences. The Mortirolo is known as one of the hardest climbs in the Europe.

At the top of the climb there will be a packed lunch, drinks and snacks. We will then return to the bottom of the valley from the same side but with an alternative route to the climb and then return to Bormio.

As for the day of the Stelvio, we have provided a second option for those who want to go further, even in this case doubling kilometers and elevation gain. From the Mortirolo pass it is possible to descend into Val Camonica and after reaching the town of Ponte di Legno begins the climb of the Gavia pass from the opposite side to the previous day.

Once back in Bormio we will take care of your Stelbel, preparing them for transportation while you enjoy a massage and a few moments of relaxation. At around 19:00 a light dinner is scheduled, after which it will be unfortunately the time to return to Milan and Bergamo, sure to bring back with you some incredible memories.

This is still a temporary program and slight revisions are possible.
